ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • With October ended and winter approaching, local bird enthusiasts are urged to prepare feeders with quality seeds like white millet and nyjer seed—avoiding fillers such as milo—to attract a variety of winter birds. Experts say a good feeder setup helps keep seeds dry and minimizes waste as colder weather arrives.  Ithaca Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit announced on Wednesday that all EBT card holders can ride for free while SNAP benefits remain delayed by the federal government shutdown (riders just need to show their EBT card) to ease access to food pantries. Tompkins County Legislator Greg Mezey and Senator Lea Webb said the move will help reduce transportation barriers for those in need.  14850
