  • Jimmy Jordan will become the new managing editor on Monday, Dec. 15 at The Ithaca Voice as Matt Butler departs after five years to pursue opportunities in Delaware. The board expressed confidence in Jordan’s ability to strengthen local news reporting.  The Ithaca Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell's José F. Martínez and Mor Naaman were named Distinguished Members of the Association for Computing Machinery on Dec. 10. Martínez was honored for contributions to adaptive parallel architectures and Naaman for his work on technology's impact on human communication.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Six Building Care staff were honored on Dec. 10 at Bartels Hall for their dedication to keeping campus clean and safe—each received a $1,400 award while some earned Bartels scholarships for further education.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Hauwa Otori ’08 was featured on Startup Cornell’s latest podcast episode on Friday, Dec. 12, where she shared stories of under-resourced entrepreneurs from her Building Black podcast and Founders International Network.   • Sprague & Jackson urges Ithaca businesses and individuals to start year-end tax planning this December, offering guidance on payroll & retirement contributions and charitable donations. Their tips aim to reduce penalties and ease financial stress before tax season arrives.  607 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Ithaca will offer free street and garage parking for holiday shopping and outings from Saturday, Dec. 20 to Sunday, Dec. 28 to help boost local business. Free parking applies at City-owned garages — including those downtown and in Collegetown — and at metered street spots.  14850

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fifty-one infants were hospitalized after infant botulism affected recalled ByHeart formula products. Federal officials expanded the recall for items manufactured since Aug. 1 (no deaths reported) and are investigating the outbreak.  607 News Now
  • Flu cases rose in Tompkins County and across New York as winter set in—state health officials reported over 32,000 cases this season, up from 481 early in October, and urged residents to get vaccinated and stay home when ill to slow the spread.  Ithaca Journal
