About this event

After a summer break, the GLP Book Study group reconvenes on November 22, 2- 4 pm, with the book We Survived the Night by Julian Brave Noisecat . Julian Noisecat is also the director of the film Sugarcane , a documentary about the story of his father, who, as a baby, was found and rescued from a Catholic residential school incinerator in the town of Sugarcane in Canada. GLP screened this film in September of 2024.

Buffalo Street Books, one of our local independent bookstores, has 2 hardcover copies of this book available right now and has let us know that the paperback edition will be coming out on October 13, and they will have copies available. Buffalo Street Books has supported our book study by welcoming us into their space for our discussions for the last 2 years - Nya:weh BSB!

The book, We Survived the Night , is part memoir of Julian and his family, as well as a sharing of folktales and history - both of his own family and community as well as of wider indigenous communities on Turtle Island, - and reflections of contemporary experience.
