COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Visitors got an up-close look at Tanglewood Nature Center's African pygmy hedgehog Wiggles during Tangle Tuesday. Summer camps starting in July will let the public meet Wiggles and his mother Prickles (the center's popular animal ambassadors).  WENY
  • Residents at Hillside Acres in Varna tried to raise $3 million to buy their mobile home park before an out-of-state bidder could take over, but as of their final funding round yesterday the gap remains, putting affordable housing at risk.  The Ithaca Voice
  • Newfield prepares for its fourth annual Greenup Day on Saturday, Apr. 18 as community members join founder Mitch Raymond to clean up roadsides and pass on cleanup values to future generations.   • Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will perform Quinto Elemento (Fifth Element) at Cornell University’s Bailey Hall on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The show, led by choreographer Patricia Guerrero, also features an original live score by Francis Gómez as the season finale of the Dallas Morse Coors Concert Series.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Trumansburg therapist and writer Lex Santi released his novel The Song of the Midnight Rider, a road tale about debt and freedom inspired by an urban legend, now available at Buffalo Street Books + Barnes and Noble with an author showcase in Ithaca on April 18.  Tompkins Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ithaca College students in the Roy H. Park School of Communications are scoring their short films this semester to gain real-world experience as junior Julian Bingham and fellow composers create original music that adds professional flair to each project.  The Ithacan
  • Tompkins Cortland Community College reached an agreement with RIT on March 26 that guarantees junior-year spots with scholarships at Saunders College of Business for accounting, business and hospitality graduates. The deal builds a clear transfer pathway for students from TC3 to complete their bachelor's degrees.  Tompkins Weekly
  • Students in Nature Club connected with the outdoors and learned wildlife facts during a hike at Natural Lands on Tuesday, March 31 — the school program gave them a hands-on lesson in nature.  The Ithacan
  • Ithaca College's Student Governance Council met March 30 to discuss changes to the Appropriations Committee handbook and new initiatives affecting student funding and travel. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 300 block of College Ave northbound lane is closed for a mobile crane setup that began Friday, Mar. 27 at 6:00 p.m. and will end Friday, Apr. 3 at 6:00 p.m. flaggers are directing pedestrians to the west sidewalk while keeping business access open.  City of Ithaca
  • City officials approved The Hive, a mixed-income housing project at 132 Cherry Street, at the March 24 planning board meeting. The project will update its plans to adjust for new flood maps (removing a proposed pool and increasing apartment units from 143 to 148) as it moves toward final approval.  The Ithaca Voice
