If you ride or an intercity bus downtown, check your stop before Monday. TCAT and city officials agreed on a plan to ease congestion and help businesses after the Seneca St. garage closure, which was announced in April. They talked with downtown business owners for the last few weeks first.

  • Starts: Mon., Nov. 9
  • The first stop moves about 60 yards east
  • Routes 30, 30W and 90 use the Tioga corner
  • New: two accessible parking spaces on the 100 block of E. Seneca St.

The new spaces go near , behind the Ithaca Carshare space. Finger Lakes Daily News reports that TCAT will update its website, real-time Bus Tracker and MyStop app to match. The city says it will keep watching parking use during peak hours.

Downtown businesses are petitioning Ithaca to halt the Seneca Street garage demolition

If you've circled downtown looking for a spot lately, local business owners have noticed too. Moosewood Restaurant's online petition asks Common Council to pause demolition, order an independent structural study and hold a moratorium on redevelopment. It had 891 signatures as of Oct. 28.

“I think rather than moving hastily in 2027, I think you need to slow down and really think about what is a priority for downtown.”

Danica Wilcox, Moosewood owner, at the Oct. 14 Common Council meeting

Wilcox said roughly half of arriving dining parties send one person in first while the others circle the block. Peggy Coleman of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce said tourists generate 50% of downtown merchant sales. The city is also moving bus stops to address business concerns.
